A Short History:
The name of Bruce is synonymous with Scottish history. Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, was crowned in 1306 and defeated the English at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 to secure Scotland's independence. His male line died out, but his daughter, Marjorie, married the high steward of Scotland and started the Stewart line of Scottish kings, who ruled for almost 300 years. Today's Bruces mostly descend from Thomas Bruce, First Baron of Clackmannon, and a cousin to King Robert. Our chief, Andrew Bruce, is the 11th Earl of Elgin and 15th Earl of Kincardine, and 37th in the line of chiefs of the name and family of Bruce. He and his wife, Lady Victoria, reside at Broomhall, the family estate near Dunfermline in Scotland. Bruces are proud to be such an important part of the history and story of Scotland.
