In Memoriam

James "Jim" Waugh
23 August 1933 – 2 April 2006

We have lost a beloved friend, husband, father, a born engineer and a true Scot. James 'Jim' Waugh passed away on Sunday, 2 April 2006, after a brave and courageous fight against pancreatic cancer at the age of 72. Jim was the beloved husband of Patricia 'Pat' and the loving father of Jane and her husband John Haddinott, and Andrew and his wife Haidi. He was the proud grandfather of Christopher, Phillip, David and Isabel; the dear brother of Robert, Cameron, Pricilla Butler (John) and the late William. Jim was a patriotic Canadian, but was also a staunch Scot. He was the Past Chairman of CASSOC and at the time of his passing was serving as 1st Vice-President. No matter what the weather, Jim always came to the CASSOC meetings dressed in his kilt and with a bright and cheerful attitude. It was a pleasure to work with him.
The Funeral Service for Jim was held at St. James United Church, on Thursday 6 April (Tartan Day). The memories and reflections of Jim's life offered by his son and daughter were poignant. A lone piper piped his casket and family from the church, while we bowed our heads in sorrow.
Jim was born on 23 August 1933 in Port Seton, Scotland. Working with the Scottish Coal board, he became an electrical engineer. In 1954, he joined the Merchant marine as an electrical engineer officer. That same year he met Pat and they were married on 17 July 1957. They emigrated to Canada in 1958. In Toronto, Jim worked for 30 years with John T Hepburn, and from 1987 to 2002, he was self-employed.
Jim will be missed by all who knew him.
